The Commonwealth Society UK has honoured Vice Admiral Usman Oyibe Jibrin with a Certificate of Recognition for his contributions to good governance, youth education, development and empowerment in Nigeria.
The notable group conferred the title of ambassador on Usman Oyibe Jibrin, acknowledging his contributions to initiatives aimed at strengthening governance and creating opportunities for young Nigerians.
It was signed by Dr. Hopson Graham, the organisation’s Director of Africa Affairs.
Jibrin’s support for youth development
The recognition highlights four areas of his contributions: good governance, youth development, youth education and youth empowerment.
Jibrin’s support for young people has previously featured in The Bureau Journal’s reporting on the Ajatek Kogi Youth-in-Tech programme in Anyigba. At the programme’s inaugural induction, the Attah Igala acknowledged his donation of Oyibe Hotel for the initiative, while Jibrin encouraged Igala youths to take advantage of the training opportunities.
The programme focused on digital skills and technology education, connecting youth development with opportunities in the changing global economy.
Advocacy for unity and responsible leadership
Beyond youth empowerment, Jibrin has spoken publicly about cooperation, peaceful political participation and community development.
At the Truth, Peace and Reconciliation Summit in Idah, he outlined eight ways greater unity could strengthen the Igala Kingdom, including collaboration, resource sharing, leadership development and collective decision-making.
He also condemned political violence in Ejule and called for peace and tolerance, urging political leaders to restrain their supporters and resolve disagreements through dialogue.
His civic engagement has included an appeal to eligible Nigerians to take Permanent Voter Card collection seriously ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Recognition places emphasis on opportunities for young Nigerians
The Commonwealth Society UK operates under the motto “Bringing People Together,” reflecting its emphasis on connections and engagement across Commonwealth communities.
Its recognition of Jibrin draws attention to the contribution individuals and organisations can make towards education, leadership and economic participation for young people.
Youth participation also remains part of wider national development discussions, including NITDA’s plans to organise young Nigerians’ ideas into policy proposals.
The certificate adds to the public recognition of Jibrin’s engagements in governance and youth development in Nigeria.
