LOKOJA, Nigeria — Troops of the 12 Brigade, working alongside local vigilantes, have arrested two suspected terrorists during a fighting patrol operation in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The development was disclosed by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, in a post shared on X.
Operation Followed Surveillance Activities
According to Makama, the operation was conducted at about 9:00 a.m. on May 19 along the Eganyi–Atabatam–Epiri–Ebatoto–Idebe axis following sustained surveillance and patrol activities in the area.
He said the troops carried out a coordinated sweep as part of ongoing military efforts to strengthen security and tackle criminal activities along vulnerable routes in Kogi State.
Suspects Arrested During Patrol
During the operation, security operatives reportedly apprehended two suspected terrorists believed to be operating within the area.
The suspects were arrested without reported casualties during the patrol exercise.
Items Recovered from Suspects
Makama stated that security personnel recovered several items from the suspects, including a motorcycle, a machete, and a mobile phone.
Other unspecified items were also reportedly recovered during the operation.
“The suspects and recovered items were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and necessary action,” Makama stated.
Security Operations Continue in Kogi Axis
The patrol operation forms part of wider security efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks and preventing the spread of terrorist and bandit activities within Kogi State and surrounding areas.
Security agencies have intensified surveillance and joint operations in parts of the North Central region amid growing concerns over criminal movements across interstate routes.
