The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has inspected the ongoing construction of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks Phase II, directing contractors to maintain construction standards and deliver the project on time.
Shaibu conducted the unscheduled inspection on Friday, October 16, 2026, to assess progress, workmanship and compliance with approved specifications.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the visit formed part of efforts to address accommodation shortages affecting personnel and their families.
Residential Blocks, Roads and Water Systems Inspected
During the visit, the Army Chief inspected residential accommodation blocks, internal roads, water reticulation systems and other facilities intended to support daily life within the barracks.
Project engineers and consultants briefed him on the work completed, challenges affecting implementation and expected completion timelines.
According to the statement, Shaibu expressed satisfaction with the progress but urged contractors to sustain the pace without compromising quality.
He stressed that the facilities must provide lasting value and meet the needs of soldiers and their families.
Accommodation Central to Troop Welfare
Shaibu described the barracks project as part of the Army’s efforts to close accommodation gaps, improve living conditions and strengthen personnel morale.
He linked the provision of modern housing and essential services to his Soldier First philosophy, which places personnel welfare at the centre of the Army’s institutional priorities.
The Army Chief maintained that improved living conditions would support the development of a motivated, professional and combat-ready force.
The accommodation project forms part of a wider focus on military facilities. In Kebbi, Governor Nasir Idris has separately outlined proposals for an additional Army Forward Operating Base and reinforcements for Zuru Barracks.
Investment in security infrastructure has also featured in engagements between the Kebbi State Government and Zuru traditional leaders, including discussions about barracks and operational bases.
Army Promises Continued Project Monitoring
Shaibu said regular and unscheduled inspections would continue across Army formations and barracks to monitor delivery standards and promote accountability.
He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that infrastructure spending delivers value for money and facilities that serve personnel over the long term.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks is named after the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
The statement did not disclose the Phase II project’s contract value, number of housing units or a specific completion date.
