Senator Isah Jibrin, popularly known as Echocho, has condemned the alleged killing of a man identified as AbdulHakim by suspected members of a local vigilante group in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday afternoon following an allegation of cable theft against the deceased.
In a statement issued on Friday, the senator described the alleged extrajudicial killing as barbaric and called on the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding AbdulHakim’s death.
Senator Rejects Mob Violence
Echocho stressed that an allegation of wrongdoing should be investigated through the appropriate authorities rather than used as justification for violence.
He said anyone suspected of committing a crime should be handed over to law enforcement agencies for investigation, insisting that individuals must not take the law into their own hands.
The senator urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found responsible for the killing is held accountable.
His intervention centres on the conduct of those allegedly involved and the need to establish the circumstances of the encounter. The cable theft allegation against AbdulHakim remains an allegation.
The statement did not provide further details about the identities of the suspected vigilante members or indicate whether any arrests had been made.
