Express Radio Nigeria has distanced itself from a viral video circulating on social media platforms involving an interview with elder statesman Alhaji Sharu Usman Babban Lungu, insisting that the recording was neither produced nor officially published by the station.
In a statement issued by the management of Express Radio Nigeria, the station acknowledged that the interview with the elder statesman took place within its premises. However, management said information available to it indicated that some individuals who accompanied the guest recorded the video independently without the knowledge or authorisation of the radio station.
Station Disowns Viral Recording
According to the management, the video was later circulated on social media platforms carrying the Express Radio Nigeria logo, creating confusion among members of the public and giving the impression that the material had been officially produced and published by the station.
The station stressed that the portion of the interview officially published through its platforms did not contain the statements or information featured in the viral recording.
Express Radio Nigeria therefore urged members of the public to disregard claims attributing the viral material to the station, saying the recording did not originate from its official publication channels and should not be interpreted as representing its editorial position.
Express Radio Reaffirms Professional Standards
The management said Express Radio Nigeria does not endorse or authorise materials capable of damaging individuals’ reputations or violating established principles of professional journalism.
The station further reaffirmed its commitment to operating within the provisions of Section 39 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, while observing relevant laws, professional standards and ethical obligations governing journalism and broadcasting.
It maintained that its editorial responsibility extends only to materials produced and published through its authorised channels.
Viral Video Sparks Confusion
The clarification comes amid growing concerns over the circulation of audio and video recordings bearing the identities or logos of media organisations without proper authorisation.
Such materials, the station noted, can create confusion among members of the public regarding their authenticity and the media organisation responsible for their publication.
Express Radio Nigeria said it remains committed to responsible broadcasting, professional journalism and the protection of established ethical standards in the media industry.
