A Nigerian man, Francis Ushie, has appealed for contact with his four children, saying he became separated from his family after their relocation to Canada.
In an interview attributed to the YouTube channel The Rest of Us, Ushie said he financed the relocation but remained in Nigeria while his former banking employer audited his position.
He said his wife and children travelled ahead of him after their Canadian residency permits were approved. According to him, the audit lasted almost a year and delayed his departure.
Ushie said he had hoped the move would provide a fresh start for the family following difficulties in the marriage.
Ushie recounts arrival in Canada
According to Ushie, he eventually travelled to Canada in November 2014 but could not establish contact with his wife or obtain the address where she and their children were living.
He alleged that she had blocked communication with him, leaving him unable to locate the family after arriving at Calgary International Airport.
“I could not locate where my wife was staying with our children. I was stranded at the airport,” he said.
Ushie said he subsequently returned to Nigeria using his return ticket.
Appeal centres on relationship with children
Ushie said he had sought reconciliation since 2016 and remained open to repairing the marriage. However, he stressed that his immediate concern was maintaining a relationship with his children.
He alleged that their mother had prevented them from communicating with him and said he wanted an opportunity to explain his role in supporting the family.
“My issue is that she should allow my children talk to me. With that I will be okay,” he said.
Defending his contribution to the relocation, Ushie said he paid the expenses of moving his wife and four children to Canada, including two years’ rent.
He also said he was considering writing to Canadian authorities about the circumstances of the separation.
Ushie maintained that he wanted his children to hear from him directly and understand that he remained willing to be part of their lives.
