Allegations against Gbajabiamila; A video of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, the man at the centre of the alleged ₦1.3 billion “ghost agency” controversy against Gbajabiamila, has resurfaced online as public debate over the purported government body continues to gather momentum.
The Bureau Journal reports that the footage, recorded during a press conference in late June 2026, captured Adeyemi defending his claim to the leadership of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council while disputing the position of the Presidency and the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
Adeyemi Questions Budget References
During the briefing, Adeyemi questioned how an agency that the Presidency described as non-existent could allegedly appear in official budget documents.
He argued that Nigeria’s budget preparation process involves multiple stages of review before approval by the National Assembly.
According to him, the inclusion of the agency in official budget records raises questions about how references to the council allegedly found their way into government documentation.
“The national budget does not emerge in isolation. It passes through multiple layers of technical drafting, executive coordination, ministerial inputs, Budget Office review, and finally legislative scrutiny by both chambers of the National Assembly,” he said.
Claims Over CBN Accounts
Adeyemi also alleged that the purported council maintained several accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), including domiciliary, pound sterling and Treasury Single Account (TSA) accounts.
He questioned whether such accounts could exist without the submission of valid documentation, maintaining that the issue deserved further scrutiny.
Allegation Against Chief of Staff
During the press conference, Adeyemi further alleged that the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, demanded 48 per cent of the council’s proposed ₦27.4 billion take-off grant, amounting to about ₦12.5 billion.
However, these allegations have been consistently denied by the Presidency.
Presidency Rejects Claims
The Presidency has maintained that the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council was never established by the Federal Government and has no legal recognition.
According to the Office of the Chief of Staff, the alleged council lacks any statutory backing.
The Presidency further accused Adeyemi of forging official government documents, including appointment letters purportedly bearing the names and signatures of senior government officials, to present himself as the Director-General of the alleged council.
Investigation Continues
The controversy has continued to attract public attention as questions persist over the claims and counterclaims surrounding the alleged agency.
As Nigeria News Today continues to follow the development, The Bureau Journal notes that no court has made a final determination on the allegations, while the Federal Government continues to maintain that the purported agency does not exist.
The Bureau Journal will continue to monitor official statements and any further legal or investigative developments relating to the matter.
