Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening media practice and supporting professional journalism as part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability and good governance.

Governor Commends Summit Organisers
Represented by the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris commended the organisers for initiating the summit, describing it as a timely platform for promoting professionalism within the media industry.
He said the gathering would strengthen the capacity of journalists and social media influencers to uphold ethical standards, objectivity and professionalism in their reporting.
Tinubu Calls for Continuous Media Training
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, also praised the organisers for convening the summit.
The President stressed the importance of continuous training and professional development for journalists to enhance accurate, objective and responsible reporting.
According to him, effective coverage of government activities depends on journalists having a proper understanding of public policies and programmes, enabling them to provide factual and balanced information to citizens.
He further urged media practitioners to contribute to national unity, peace and development through responsible journalism.
Kano Governor Highlights Role of Ethical Journalism
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, who served as the Chief Host of the summit, described the event as an important initiative for strengthening ethical journalism and professionalism in the media sector.
He said the summit was designed to bridge the gap between misinformation and factual reporting while improving public understanding of government programmes and policies.
Governor Yusuf also noted that the initiative would strengthen collaboration with professional bodies, including the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and new media practitioners.
He added that his administration places high value on journalism, a position reflected in the appointment of several media professionals into strategic government communication roles.
Theme Focuses on Accountability and Responsible Media Practice
In his welcome address, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment, AbdulAziz AbdulAziz, said the summit was organised under the theme: “Government-Citizen Accord: Accountability, Responsibility and Ethical Media Practice.”
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for supporting the successful organisation of the summit.
