The Kogi State Government has awarded an emergency rehabilitation contract for the Greater Lokoja Water Works, with the contractor expected to restore water supply to its previous level within four months.
Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Yahaya Farouk, announced the contract during the formal handover of the facility to Gamji Company Nigeria Limited in Lokoja.
He said the intervention was intended to restore the plant’s functionality and improve access to potable water for residents of the state capital.
Contractor Given Access to Waterworks
Farouk said the plant’s facilities had been assessed and an inventory completed ahead of the rehabilitation.
He urged the interim management to cooperate with the contractor and provide access to the facilities to enable smooth execution of the repairs.
The commissioner described access to potable water as a priority for Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, saying the administration was committed to making the waterworks fully functional again.
The contract adds to infrastructure interventions considered under the state’s Executive Council decisions on projects and reforms.
Gamji Promises Immediate Commencement
Gamji Company Nigeria Limited’s Team Lead, Mr Michael Okoh, assured the government and residents that work would commence immediately.
He pledged to deliver quality repairs and fulfil the company’s obligations under the project.

Ministry Emphasises Potable Water Access
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr Alhassan Omakoji, commended Ododo for supporting efforts to restore potable water supply to Lokoja residents.
The announcement did not specify the contract value, individual components to be repaired or the volume of water expected when rehabilitation is completed.
The four-month target sets a timeframe for restoring the service, while the contractor’s immediate task is to begin the emergency repairs following the handover.
