Jamil Gamna: Thirty-nine youths from Gombe State who benefited from a scholarship programme sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, have expressed support for his 2027 governorship ambition.
The beneficiaries, who were sponsored to study at Yamusa Science Academy in Birnin Kebbi, are now pursuing various degree programmes in higher institutions.
In a statement issued on July 30, 2026, the young scholars expressed confidence that children, women and youths would be among the major beneficiaries of Gwamna’s proposed administration if he is elected governor of Gombe State in 2027.
Beneficiaries Highlight Impact of Scholarship Programme
The scholars said the scholarship programme had made a significant difference in their lives and provided them with an opportunity to pursue higher education.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mohammed Umar said the selection of 39 students from different parts of Gombe State, without what he described as personal connections or influence, demonstrated Gwamna’s commitment to investing in human capital development.
Umar said the decision to sponsor the students to study at a reputable institution using personal resources showed what he described as the candidate’s willingness to prioritise education and youth development.
“We are undergraduates today because he believed in our future. This gives us confidence that under his leadership, the future of children and youths in Gombe State will be brighter and more secure,” Umar said.
He also urged young people in the state to support Gwamna’s candidacy in the 2027 governorship election.
Beneficiary Commends Support for Girl-Child Education
Another beneficiary, Hafsat Abubakar, commended the scholarship programme for supporting her educational aspirations as a young woman.
She described the opportunity as transformative, noting that access to education could help young people develop the skills and knowledge required to contribute meaningfully to society.
Gwamna Promises Focus on Human Capital Development
Responding to the beneficiaries, Dr. Jamil Gwamna reiterated his position that investment in human capital development remains essential to achieving sustainable development.
He said that, if elected, his administration would prioritise youth empowerment through education, vocational training and digital skills development.
According to him, the initiatives would be designed to equip young people with the knowledge and practical skills required to realise their potential and contribute to the economic development of Gombe State.
Gwamna Praises Inuwa Yahaya’s Education Reforms
The APC governorship candidate also commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for what he described as significant progress in the education sector.
Gwamna specifically highlighted efforts in education infrastructure and learning outcomes, describing the transformation as a movement “from emergency to excellence.”
He recalled that the state had previously declared a State of Emergency in Education, noting that the intervention had attracted both support and scepticism at the time.
According to figures cited by Gwamna, Gombe State’s external examination pass rate has increased from 22 per cent to about 76 per cent.
He also claimed that more than 450,000 out-of-school children had returned to classrooms, while over 1,600 classrooms had been renovated and five Mega Colleges established to accommodate rising student enrolment.
Gwamna: We Will Continue on the Path of Educational Development
Gwamna described the reported progress in the education sector as a “story of redemption” and expressed his commitment to building on the gains recorded in the state.
“This is a story of redemption, and we will continue on this path until Gombe State becomes the reality of our collective dreams,” he said.
The statement was signed by Ibrahim Sani Shawai, spokesperson to Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna.
