Suspected bandits have reportedly attacked Beli village in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, killing a young resident and abducting the local All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Alhaji Audu Fanka Salisu Yahaya.
The attack occurred at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The incident is the latest in a series of attacks reported across parts of Kano State in recent days, raising fresh concerns about the safety of residents in communities outside the state capital.
APC Chairman Abducted From His Home
According to the source, the gunmen forced their way into Yahaya’s home, brought him outside and took him away.
A young resident, reportedly aged below 25, was also shot during the attack and died at the scene.
Several other residents were reportedly injured by gunfire.
“They came in, firing sporadically, and went straight to the chairman’s house. They broke down the door, brought him out and took him away,” the source said.
“On their way, they shot a young man, who was not more than 25 years old, and he died instantly.”
Yahaya Reportedly Close To Kano Assembly Speaker
Yahaya was said to be a close associate of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, who is from Rogo Local Government Area.
The development has attracted concern among residents and political stakeholders in the area, particularly amid reports of repeated attacks on communities in neighbouring local government areas.
The official APC Kano State leadership directory lists Rogo among the state’s local government party structures, underscoring the political importance of the area.
Third Consecutive Day of Reported Attacks
The Beli incident follows two other attacks reportedly recorded in parts of Kano State since Sunday.
On Sunday, suspected bandits reportedly invaded Chiromawa in Garun Mallam Local Government Area, where three people were reportedly shot and an elderly man was abducted.
The abducted man was subsequently reported to have escaped from his captors.
On Monday night, another attack was reported in Rantan community in Bebeji Local Government Area.
In that incident, the APC chairman of Rantan Ward, Alhaji Garba Buba, and another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma, were reportedly killed after gunmen attacked the community.
Other reports said the attackers also abducted members of Buba’s family during the assault.
The succession of incidents has intensified fears among residents of rural communities in parts of Kano, particularly those living close to forested areas and vulnerable routes.
Security Agencies Yet To Confirm Beli Attack
As of the latest reports available, the Kano State Police Command had not issued an official statement confirming the Beli attack or providing details about efforts to rescue the abducted APC chairman.
The absence of an official security briefing means some details surrounding the incident, including the identities of the attackers and the current whereabouts of Yahaya, remain unconfirmed.
The Bureau Journal will continue to monitor the situation and update this report if the police, Kano State Government or other security agencies provide further information.
Kano Attacks Renew Wider Security Concerns
The latest incident comes amid continuing concerns over banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes affecting communities across northern Nigeria.
Security analysts have repeatedly stressed the importance of intelligence gathering, community cooperation and rapid response in preventing armed groups from establishing or exploiting criminal corridors.
The Bureau Journal recently reported on growing concerns over insecurity in northern communities following the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in bandits’ captivity. The incident triggered fresh calls for stronger cooperation in confronting terrorism, kidnapping and banditry across the region.
In another recent security report, The Bureau Journal detailed an alleged ambush involving a private security team linked to Sunday Igboho during an operation against suspected criminal groups in Oyo State.
The continuing attacks demonstrate the scale of the security challenge confronting communities in different parts of Nigeria and the need for sustained intelligence-led operations.
Residents of Beli and surrounding communities are now awaiting stronger security intervention as efforts to determine the whereabouts of the abducted APC chairman are expected to continue.
