A married woman who allegedly lodged at a Gwarimpa guest house with her secret lover has emerged at the centre of a disturbing investigation into the discovery of a man’s lifeless body under the Katampe Bridge in Abuja.
The FCT Police Command said investigations into the death of the unidentified man, whose body was discovered on August 26, 2026, have uncovered details of his final hours and the people who allegedly came into contact with him before his body was dumped.
According to the police investigation, the deceased had lodged at a guest house in Gwarimpa with a married woman identified as Mrs Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2.
Police said the woman was allegedly in a romantic relationship with the deceased and had saved his phone number under the name “Safiyat.”
Married Woman Allegedly Finds Lover Dead
The investigation took a dramatic turn after police reportedly discovered that Muhammed was allegedly with the deceased at the guest house when he died.
According to the FCT Police Command, the woman allegedly discovered that the man was no longer breathing and had died.
Rather than immediately reporting the death to the police, she allegedly took his mobile phone and left the guest house.
The circumstances surrounding what happened inside the room before the woman allegedly left remain part of the ongoing police investigation.
The police have not stated the cause of the man’s death, and there is currently no established finding that the woman caused or contributed to his death.
Hotel Staff Allegedly Dumped Body Under Katampe Bridge
The deceased’s body was later reportedly discovered in the guest house room by members of the hotel management.
Police said two hotel workers, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly became involved after the discovery.
The two men are accused of removing the body from the guest house and dumping it under the Katampe Bridge.
The discovery of the body at the bridge subsequently triggered a police investigation that led detectives back to the Gwarimpa guest house and the people believed to have had contact with the deceased before his body was abandoned.
Why Did the Married Woman Leave Without Reporting the Death?
The most striking element of the police account is the allegation that the woman discovered her lover had died but did not immediately alert the authorities.
Instead, investigators said she allegedly took the deceased’s mobile phone and left the premises.
It remains unclear why she allegedly chose not to report the death, and the police have not publicly established what she knew about the man’s condition before his death.
The allegation that the two were romantically involved has also not, by itself, established any criminal responsibility for the man’s death.
Investigators are expected to determine what happened inside the guest house, when the man died, what caused his death and what occurred between the time of his death and the eventual discovery of his body beneath the bridge.
Police Probe Circumstances Surrounding Mysterious Death
The FCT Police Command said the exact cause and circumstances of the man’s death remain under investigation.
That means several crucial questions remain unanswered, including whether the deceased died naturally, suffered a medical emergency or died as a result of another circumstance.
The police investigation will also have to establish the sequence of events involving the woman and the two hotel workers.
The case comes amid continuing concerns about criminal activity and insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory. The Bureau Journal has previously reported several investigations involving suspected criminal networks and violent incidents across Abuja and neighbouring areas.
Police Promise Action Against Anyone Found Culpable
The FCT Police Command assured the public that the investigation would continue and that anyone found culpable would face the law.
The command’s position leaves open the possibility that additional suspects or persons of interest could emerge as investigators reconstruct the deceased man’s final movements.
For now, the police have not announced the cause of death or disclosed whether forensic examination has established how the man died.
The identities of the deceased’s relatives and details of his background have also not been released in the police account provided.
Katampe Body Discovery Raises More Questions
What began with the discovery of a man’s lifeless body beneath the Katampe Bridge has now expanded into an investigation involving an alleged secret relationship, a guest house and claims that the body was moved from the location where the man died.
The police account places Muhammed among the last known people to have been with the deceased and alleges that she left the guest house after discovering his death.
However, the investigation has not established that she was responsible for the man’s death.
The police will now have to establish the cause of death and determine whether the actions of the woman or the two hotel workers amounted to any criminal offence.
The FCT Police Command said anyone found culpable would be made to face the law as investigators continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the Katampe body discovery.
