Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has inaugurated a new Governing Council for the Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA), as part of efforts to restore stability and strengthen governance at the institution.
The Bureau Journal reports that the inauguration follows recent changes in the university’s leadership, including the dissolution of the previous Governing Council and the removal of key management officials.
Governor Seeks Stability for the University
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris said the appointments were carefully made to reposition the university and ensure effective administration.
He explained that the newly constituted Governing Council was selected based on competence and experience to support the institution’s continued growth.
The governor also announced the appointment of Professor Muhammad Abubakar Kaoje as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to AFUSTA
Governor Idris described AFUSTA as Kebbi State’s pioneer and only state-owned university, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting its academic and infrastructural development.
He noted that Professor Kaoje’s experience as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the university would be valuable in guiding the institution through its next phase of development.
The governor urged the Governing Council to work closely with the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mungadi, and the university’s management to improve academic standards and institutional governance.
Pro-Chancellor Pledges Effective Leadership
Responding on behalf of the Governing Council, Professor Muhammad Abubakar Kaoje expressed appreciation to Governor Idris for the confidence reposed in the members.
He assured the governor that the council would discharge its responsibilities diligently and remain committed to regular engagement with the state government in advancing the university’s objectives.

According to him, members were selected from different professional backgrounds and possess relevant experience that will contribute to the effective administration of the university.
