Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has assured members of the Tractor Association in Birnin Kebbi that they can continue occupying their business premises, dismissing reports circulating on social media that they had been ordered to vacate the area.
The governor directed the traders to continue their lawful business activities without fear, stressing that the alleged eviction notice did not originate from the Kebbi State Government or any authorised government agency.
Government Debunks Viral Eviction Claim
The clarification followed the circulation of a viral social media post claiming that members of the association had been served an eviction notice from their business location in the state capital.
In response, Governor Idris directed the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Alhaji Hayatuddeen Bawa Jega, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, and the General Manager of the Kebbi State Urban Development Authority (KUDA) to visit the site and address the concerns of the traders.
Commissioner Confirms No Eviction Order
Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development said he became aware of the report through Facebook and immediately contacted the General Manager of KUDA to verify its authenticity.
According to him, the General Manager confirmed that neither KUDA nor any other government agency had issued an eviction notice to the association.
He said Governor Idris had made it clear that no one was authorised to evict the traders and instructed them to remain at their current location while continuing their legitimate business activities.
Public Urged to Verify Information
The Commissioner for Information and Culture urged members of the association and the public to verify information relating to government policies through the appropriate authorities instead of relying on unverified reports circulating on social media.
He alleged that some individuals were using online platforms to spread false information aimed at misleading residents and discrediting the state government as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections begin to gather momentum.
He also appealed to residents to continue supporting the administration’s development programmes across Kebbi State.
Association Commends Governor’s Swift Response
Responding on behalf of the association, its Chairman, Alhaji Faruq Umar, expressed appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris for his prompt intervention.
He said the governor’s reassurance had eased the concerns of members and restored confidence among traders, adding that the association would continue to support the administration while pursuing its lawful business activities.
The Bureau Journal reports that the state government has reaffirmed its commitment to engaging stakeholders directly whenever issues affecting businesses and livelihoods arise, while encouraging residents to seek clarification from official channels before acting on unverified information.
