The Kebbi State Police Command has warned against further blockades of the Kebbi–Sokoto Federal Highway after an obstruction on Friday, October 9, 2026, disrupted vehicular movement for approximately three hours.
The command said the incident followed an earlier blockade on September 23, describing the repeated obstruction of the highway as unacceptable.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the disruption prevented motorists and other road users from moving freely, including people requiring emergency medical attention.
Police Say Blockades Endanger Public Safety
According to the command, obstructing the highway contravenes traffic regulations, disrupts lawful activities and creates opportunities for criminal activity.
The police warned that any recurrence would attract legal action, with organisers and participants subject to investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law.
The statement did not identify the organisers or specify the grievances behind the blockades.
Aggrieved Residents Urged to Use Lawful Channels
The command urged people with grievances to seek redress through lawful channels rather than prevent other citizens from using public roads.
It identified elected representatives, traditional rulers and the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) as avenues through which residents could raise their concerns.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, appealed to members of the public to act responsibly and respect the rights of fellow citizens.
He urged residents to avoid actions that interfere with the movement of people and goods along the highway.
Parents Asked to Counsel Children and Wards
The command also asked parents and guardians to discourage their children and wards from participating in unlawful assemblies and to emphasise the importance of obeying the law.
It reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and the uninterrupted movement of lawful road users, warning that further highway obstruction would not be tolerated.
