The Kogi State Government has approved the payment of bursary allowances to indigenous students studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria, with disbursement expected to commence soon.
The development is expected to provide financial relief to Kogi students and their families as the state government moves to fulfil its commitment to supporting education and youth welfare.
Ododo Govt Secures Bursary Payment Approval
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, disclosed the development when he received the newly reconstituted executive members of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) in his office in Lokoja.
According to the commissioner, the necessary approval for the bursary payment has been secured, assuring Kogi students that the disbursement will commence soon.
Anyebe said the initiative was part of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration’s efforts to support the welfare of young people and ensure that financial difficulties do not unnecessarily disrupt students’ education.
Students and Families Expected to Get Relief
The bursary payment is targeted at indigenous Kogi students enrolled in tertiary institutions across the country.
The announcement comes at a time when the cost of education continues to place pressure on students and their families, making financial support an important part of efforts to keep young people in school.
The Bureau Journal has continued to follow developments affecting education and youth opportunities in Kogi State, including the inauguration of Africa’s first renewable energy college in Kogi.
Over 200 Kogi Youths Benefit From Grants
The commissioner also highlighted youth development initiatives undertaken by the Ododo administration, saying more than 200 youths had benefited from entrepreneurship programmes and grants facilitated by his ministry.
He said the programmes were designed to give young people opportunities to develop businesses and become economically productive.
The initiatives form part of wider efforts to expand economic opportunities for young people in the state. The Bureau Journal previously reported on Kogi’s efforts to expand agricultural investment and value-chain opportunities.
Commissioner Pledges Support for New NAKOSS Leadership
Anyebe assured the newly inaugurated NAKOSS executive of the ministry’s continued cooperation and support, particularly on programmes focused on students’ welfare, education and youth development.
He congratulated the new officials on their election and urged them to use their tenure to promote unity, peace, responsible leadership and progress within the association.
His call for responsible student leadership comes as Kogi continues to strengthen programmes aimed at improving opportunities for young people. The state government has also been involved in broader community development and youth-focused initiatives across Kogi.
New NAKOSS President Seeks Government Partnership
Earlier, the newly inaugurated NAKOSS President, Comrade Isiaka Usman Amoto, said the delegation visited the ministry to formally introduce the new executive members and seek the commissioner’s support and cooperation.
Amoto commended Anyebe for what he described as his leadership and commitment to youth development.
He expressed confidence that the ministry would continue to work with NAKOSS for the benefit of Kogi students studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
NAKOSS Pledges Support for Students
The new NAKOSS president pledged the loyalty and commitment of the executive to programmes and policies of the Ododo administration while assuring that the association would continue to advocate for the interests and welfare of Kogi students.
The association is also expected to work with the government on initiatives relating to education, student welfare and youth development during the new executive’s tenure.
The latest bursary approval adds to the administration’s education-related activities, including efforts around tertiary education and development across the North Central region and the state’s broader investment in educational infrastructure.
Disbursement Expected Soon
While the state government has confirmed that approval for the bursary payment has been secured, the actual disbursement is yet to commence.
Commissioner Anyebe assured students that payment would begin soon, although no specific disbursement date or amount per beneficiary was announced.
For Kogi students awaiting the bursary, the next major development will therefore be the commencement of the payment process.
The Bureau Journal will continue to monitor the bursary programme and report when the state government announces the commencement of disbursement and further details for beneficiaries.
