Rosemary Aduku, the councillor representing Ogugu Ward III in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, has reportedly died after spending days in captivity.
The Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Dr. Ameh Williams, announced her death on Friday in a statement issued on behalf of the council’s Executive Council.
Aduku, popularly known among colleagues as Hon. Rosella, served in the eighth Olamaboro Legislative Council.
Although the council’s statement confirmed her death and announced burial arrangements, it did not provide details of her reported captivity or establish the circumstances of her death.
Olamaboro chairman pays tribute to late councillor
Williams described Aduku as humble, dependable and committed to the happiness of those around her.
“It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden demise of our dear sister and colleague, Hon. Mrs Rosemary Aduku, the honourable councillor representing the good people of Ogugu Ward 3 in the eighth Olamaboro Legislative Council,” the statement said.
The chairman said colleagues would take comfort in her legacy and the testimonies shared following her death.
He offered condolences to her family, members of the Legislative and Executive Councils, and the people of Ogugu district.
Burial scheduled for Ogugu Centre
The announcement scheduled Aduku’s burial for 1 p.m. on Friday at her family compound in Ogugu Centre.
Williams invited members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to attend and pay their final respects.
“We use this medium to invite all APC family to be part of the burial as we bid our sister a final farewell,” the statement added.
Reported captivity adds to security concerns
The report of Aduku’s captivity comes amid concerns about kidnapping in parts of Kogi State.
The Bureau Journal has previously reported on the abduction of passengers from three commercial buses on a Kogi highway and the kidnapping of a newlywed couple along a route in the state.
Security responses have included an operation that freed kidnap victims in Itobe and a separate rescue involving 21 victims.
Community cooperation and credible intelligence have also featured in public appeals, including Admiral Usman Jibrin’s call for peace and accountability following violence in Ejule.
