President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, following his victory in the 2026 governorship election.
The congratulatory message was disclosed by Accord Party chieftain, Pelumi Olajengbesi, while speaking with journalists at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre in Osogbo after Adeleke was declared winner.
Olajengbesi said President Tinubu personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his electoral victory.
According to him, the President also deserves commendation for allowing the election to take place without interference.
“The President congratulated Governor Adeleke last night,” Olajengbesi said.
Olajengbesi Commends Tinubu
The Accord Party chieftain said Tinubu had fulfilled his promise to allow the people of Osun State to freely choose their governor through the ballot.
He said the President’s alleged non-interference in the election demonstrated respect for the democratic process and the will of Osun voters.
The development comes after a closely contested election that attracted significant attention from political parties, civil society organisations, election observers and voters across the state.
The election was also marked by reports of electoral offences, vote trading and other irregularities in some parts of Osun State.
Adeleke Defeats Oyebamiji by 66,252 Votes
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
The victory secures another mandate for Adeleke, who first became governor of Osun State after winning the 2022 governorship election.
Oyebamiji had earlier expressed confidence in victory, while African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam also contested the election and emerged among the leading candidates.
INEC Declares Adeleke Winner
The Independent National Electoral Commission formally declared Adeleke winner after the completion of voting and collation across the state’s 30 local government areas.
The result followed hours of monitoring as polling-unit results were uploaded through the INEC Result Viewing Portal.
The Bureau Journal had earlier reported on the progressive uploading of Osun election results on the IReV portal as results emerged from polling units across the state.
Osun Election Attracted Security Concerns
The election was also conducted amid reports of political violence, intimidation and disruptions at some polling locations.
Some civil society organisations monitoring the election documented cases involving vote trading, ballot exposure, voter obstruction and alleged misconduct.
There were also reports of security incidents and disruptions during voting in Osun State, prompting calls for restraint from political parties and security agencies.
Tinubu and Adeleke Political Relationship
The President’s reported congratulatory call is significant because Adeleke contested the election against the APC, the political party controlled at the federal level by President Tinubu.
The gesture comes amid renewed attention to the relationship between the Federal Government and state governments controlled by opposition parties.
It also reinforces the broader debate over political neutrality and the conduct of elections in Nigeria, particularly the role of federal institutions during closely contested state elections.
Adeleke Begins Another Four-Year Term
With his victory formally declared, Adeleke is set to continue as governor of Osun State for another four years.
The governor will now face expectations from voters to consolidate his administration’s programmes in infrastructure, healthcare, economic development, pension payments and digital transformation.
His second term will also be closely watched by political observers as the governor works to translate his electoral mandate into measurable improvements across Osun State.
The Bureau Journal will continue to provide updates on the Osun election, Governor Adeleke’s administration and major political developments across Nigeria.
