Dr Isaiah Paul, General Overseer of Prophet Isaiah Paul Ministries International, has urged the Nigerian Government to take urgent and decisive action to ease economic hardship and address persistent insecurity across the country.
Paul expressed concern over the difficulties facing Nigerian households, particularly vulnerable individuals and families struggling to cope with prevailing economic pressures.
He said government must demonstrate greater responsibility by protecting citizens, improving access to essential services and ensuring that people most at risk are not left without support.
Paul Calls for Action on Economic Hardship
The cleric said protecting lives and property remains one of the primary responsibilities of government, urging authorities to strengthen social-support measures and introduce practical policies capable of reducing the burden on ordinary Nigerians.
He stressed the need for leaders to listen more closely to the concerns of citizens and respond with compassion, accountability and urgency.
Concerns over the cost of living and household finances have remained prominent in Nigeria’s public debate. The Bureau Journal recently reported on food inflation and the pressure of rising prices on Nigerian households, while another report examined the impact of rising cooking gas prices on families and small businesses.
Cleric Raises Concern Over Insecurity
Paul also expressed serious concern over continued reports of insecurity in different parts of Nigeria.
He called for a more coordinated and effective security strategy to address violent attacks, abductions, communal unrest and other threats affecting communities and undermining public confidence.
According to him, the security situation requires sustained attention, improved intelligence gathering, faster operational responses and closer cooperation between security agencies and local communities.
He further urged authorities to ensure that perpetrators of criminal acts are investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law, while victims receive appropriate assistance.
The call comes as security remains a major concern across the country. The Bureau Journal’s Security coverage continues to track developments involving threats to communities, counter-terrorism operations and public safety.
Paul Urges Leaders to Prioritise Public Welfare
The cleric appealed to leaders at the federal, state and local levels to make the welfare and safety of Nigerians central to their governance priorities.
He said economic relief and public safety should not be treated as separate challenges, arguing that both directly affect the wellbeing and stability of citizens.
Paul urged government to adopt policies that provide meaningful support to vulnerable Nigerians while strengthening institutions responsible for protecting lives and property.
Recent labour developments have also highlighted concerns over workers’ purchasing power. The Bureau Journal reported that the Nigeria Labour Congress had begun negotiations for higher workers’ salaries amid rising living costs and economic pressures.
Community Stakeholders Asked to Support Peace
Paul also encouraged religious leaders, traditional institutions, civil-society organisations and community stakeholders to support peaceful initiatives aimed at promoting unity, social stability and national development.
He said tackling insecurity requires cooperation beyond government and security agencies, with communities playing an important role in supporting peace and providing relevant information to authorities.
The cleric maintained that stronger collaboration between institutions and communities would contribute to efforts to restore confidence and improve public safety.
The Bureau Journal recently reported on concerns over public services and economic hardship in Ankpa, Kogi State, highlighting the challenges that can emerge when residents struggle with inadequate infrastructure and essential services.
Isaiah Paul Calls for Protection of Vulnerable Nigerians
Paul concluded by urging the government to renew its commitment to safeguarding the lives, dignity and livelihoods of Nigerians, particularly vulnerable citizens.
He said effective leadership should be measured by its ability to protect citizens and respond meaningfully to the challenges confronting them.
The cleric also called for sustained efforts to promote peace, unity and social stability, saying government and community institutions must work together to address the problems affecting Nigerians.
His appeal comes as the debate over economic relief, public safety and effective governance continues to shape national discourse. The Bureau Journal’s Nigeria 2027 elections guide also identifies economic performance and security among the major issues expected to influence voters.
Paul’s message ultimately centred on the need for leadership that protects citizens, responds to hardship and treats public safety and economic wellbeing as core responsibilities of government.
