Troops of 12 Composite Brigade have rescued 11 passengers after foiling a kidnapping attempt along Kabba–Ayere Road in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The brigade’s acting spokesperson, Hassan Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the incident occurred on Sunday while troops were conducting a routine patrol.
According to Abdullahi, the soldiers responded to credible information that suspected terrorists were attempting to abduct occupants of a commercial vehicle along the route.
Attackers Flee After Encounter With Troops
Abdullahi said the troops engaged the attackers on arrival, forcing them to abandon the passengers and flee into the surrounding bush.
“On arrival, the troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into the surrounding bush.
“Consequently, 9 passengers, including the driver of the commercial vehicle, were rescued,” he said.
The driver and two other passengers sustained injuries and were evacuated for medical attention. The statement did not specify the nature or severity of their injuries.
Search Leads to Rescue of Two More Passengers
Troops subsequently searched the surrounding area and located two additional passengers who had fled into the bush during the encounter.
Their recovery brought the total number rescued to 11. Abdullahi added that the commercial vehicle was handed over to the appropriate authority.
The operation follows other reported interventions against kidnapping in Kogi, including the rescue of victims during a gun battle in Itobe and an operation involving abducted prospective corps members and other travellers.
The statement did not announce any arrests or provide further details about the fleeing attackers.
