The political associates and key members of the political family of the late first civilian Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Abubakar Habu Hashidu, have declared their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The declaration was made during an enlarged meeting of associates and members of the political family of the late governor, where participants expressed confidence in Gwamna’s leadership capacity, experience and commitment to the development of Gombe State.
Hashidu Associates Back Jamil Gwamna
The meeting was considered significant because of the longstanding relationship between Gwamna and the political family of the late Hashidu, which dates back several years.
The latest endorsement comes as political alignments continue to shape the 2027 Gombe governorship race, with Gwamna attracting support from politicians, community leaders and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the meeting, the leader of the group, Alhaji Daudu Umar Abdulsalam, popularly known as Magajin Garin Gona, said the decision to support Gwamna was based on longstanding personal and political relationships, as well as their assessment of his capacity to lead Gombe State.
Abdulsalam said the support for Gwamna was not motivated solely by the 2027 election, stressing that the relationship between the APC candidate and the late governor had existed for years.
“Our support for Jamil Gwamna is not something that started today or because of the 2027 election. There is a history of cordial relationship and loyalty between him and the late Governor Hashidu, and many of us have known him for years,” he said.
He added that members of the group had witnessed Gwamna’s character, commitment and leadership capacity and were convinced that he deserved their support for the responsibility ahead.
“We are coming together as people who worked closely with our late leader and understand the values he stood for and independently decided to support Jamil Gwamna because we believe in his ability to provide purposeful leadership and move Gombe State forward,” Abdulsalam said.
Hashidu Political Family Remains Influential
The associates described the Hashidu political family as an important political structure in Gombe State, comprising experienced politicians, grassroots leaders, community figures and loyal associates.
They noted that members of the political family have contributed significantly to the political development of the state over the years and maintained that their decision to rally behind Gwamna reflected their confidence in his political ambition.
The endorsement also comes days after a former ADC State Secretary in Gombe defected to the APC and declared support for Gwamna’s governorship ambition, further highlighting the political realignments taking place ahead of the election.
Notable Members at Enlarged Meeting
Among those present at the enlarged meeting were Alhaji Daudu Umar Abdulsalam (Magajin Garin Gona), Alhaji Gimba Marafa, Alhaji Abba Waziri (Sarkin Dabe), Dr. Hassan Langa, Dr. Habu Dahiru, Hon. Liman Gombe, Alhaji Magajin Makeri and Adiel Zakariya.
Others included Alhaji Umar Daudu Kaltungo, Barrister Garba Guruza, Abdullahi Musa PA, Mr. Kilang Mela, Abubakar Sani Baba, Alhaji Sani Barwa, Mr. Husaini Bayero and Malam Ibrahim Kanku, among others.
Growing Support for Gwamna’s 2027 Ambition
The latest declaration represents another political development around Dr. Jamil Gwamna’s bid for the Gombe State governorship ahead of the 2027 election.
Earlier in August, Gombe Tsangaya scholars also endorsed Gwamna and pledged 150,000 votes, adding another layer to the growing political support being reported around his campaign.
Gwamna’s supporters have also continued to emphasise his professional and managerial experience. A recent Bureau Journal report examined Jamil Gwamna’s record as a technocrat and his role in the KEDCO transformation story.
The development comes as political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 Gombe governorship election continue to intensify, with different political groups and stakeholders positioning themselves ahead of the poll.
The Hashidu political family’s declaration therefore adds another notable endorsement to the growing list of political and community stakeholders publicly aligning with Gwamna’s governorship ambition.
