President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, as Director of Women Mobilisation for his 2027 presidential campaign council.
Edu’s appointment was contained in the full list of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council released on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
The appointment comes as political activities and mobilisation efforts intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ruling APC strengthening its campaign structure ahead of the presidential contest.
Tinubu Chairs APC Presidential Campaign Council
The campaign council will be chaired by President Tinubu, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as vice chairmen.
Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator, Abdulaziz Yari, was appointed Director-General of the campaign council, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, will serve as Secretary.
Senator Ajibola Bashiru was appointed Deputy Secretary, while Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Assistant Secretary.
Betta Edu Gets Women Mobilisation Role
Edu’s appointment places her in charge of a strategic component of the campaign structure focused on mobilising women ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Women constitute a significant component of Nigeria’s electorate, making grassroots mobilisation among female voters an important part of any nationwide presidential campaign strategy.
The development also adds to the growing political activities surrounding President Tinubu’s expected 2027 bid. The Bureau Journal recently reported on renewed scrutiny surrounding Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, including questions over credentials submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
APC Strengthens 2027 Campaign Structure
The composition of the campaign council brings together senior political figures from across the APC and reflects an effort to establish a broad-based campaign organisation ahead of the election.
Yari’s appointment as Director-General is particularly notable given his extensive experience within the APC and his political influence in Zamfara State. He also features prominently in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, having emerged as the APC senatorial candidate for Zamfara West.
The campaign council will be expected to coordinate political mobilisation, communication, grassroots engagement and other activities as the APC prepares for the presidential contest.
Political Mobilisation Intensifies Ahead of 2027
The establishment of the campaign council comes amid increasing political alignments across the country as parties and political actors position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
Across the APC, governors, lawmakers, party leaders and grassroots organisations have continued to mobilise support for the party and President Tinubu.
In Kogi State, for instance, Senator Isah Jibrin Echocho mobilised APC supporters in Kogi East for President Tinubu during the party’s presidential primary process.
In Kebbi State, Governor Nasir Idris has also been involved in political mobilisation ahead of 2027, including efforts to secure support for himself and President Tinubu among traditional and political stakeholders.
The Bureau Journal previously reported that Governor Nasir Idris sought royal blessings for himself and Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tinubu Campaign Team Takes Shape
With Tinubu as chairman, Shettima and Yilwatda as vice chairmen, Yari as Director-General and Uzodimma as Secretary, the campaign council now has a defined leadership structure for coordinating the APC’s presidential campaign.
Edu’s appointment as Director of Women Mobilisation adds a dedicated leadership position for one of the campaign’s key voter mobilisation constituencies.
The development is expected to be followed by further grassroots mobilisation, policy messaging and political engagements as the APC advances its preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
The Bureau Journal will continue to monitor the APC’s campaign preparations, political realignments and developments surrounding the 2027 presidential contest.
