The recently concluded Jigawa State Economic and Investment Summit has begun yielding tangible results, with Danmowa Import and Export Limited unveiling a landmark investment proposal valued at approximately ₦7.5 billion to advance climate-smart agriculture and renewable energy development in the state.
The proposed project, known as the Green Horizon Initiative, is designed to position Jigawa State as a leading hub for the global bioeconomy and the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) feedstock through climate-smart agricultural practices.
According to details of the proposal, the project is officially titled “Development of a Climate-Smart Commercial Plantation and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Feedstock Platform.” The initiative is expected to attract investments ranging between ₦6.5 billion and ₦9.0 billion, with an indicative investment value of approximately ₦7.5 billion.
1,000 Hectares Allocated for Climate-Smart Agriculture
The project will be implemented across 1,000 hectares of land in Jigawa State, creating significant opportunities for agricultural expansion, renewable energy production, employment generation, environmental sustainability, and increased private sector participation.
Stakeholders believe the initiative will strengthen the state’s position as an emerging destination for innovative agribusiness investments while supporting Nigeria’s transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
₦400 Million Already Committed to Pilot Phase
As part of the project’s initial implementation, a 2-hectare Validation and Operations Hub has already been established within Jigawa State.
The pilot phase is backed by ₦400 million in committed private capital, demonstrating strong investor confidence and providing a foundation for the project’s full-scale rollout.
Project promoters noted that the early investment reflects growing confidence in Jigawa State’s economic environment following the successful hosting of the Economic and Investment Summit.
Project to Drive Economic Diversification
The Green Horizon Initiative is expected to make significant contributions to Jigawa State’s economic diversification agenda by promoting climate-resilient agriculture, strengthening agricultural value chains, attracting both local and international investors, and supporting sustainable industrial development.
Beyond boosting agricultural productivity, the project is also expected to enhance renewable energy development, stimulate rural economic growth, and create employment opportunities across various sectors of the state’s economy.
Economic Summit Begins Delivering Results
The investment proposal represents one of the first major outcomes of the recently concluded Jigawa State Economic and Investment Summit, underscoring the state’s growing appeal as an investment destination.
Observers believe the emergence of the Green Horizon Initiative signals increasing investor confidence in Jigawa State’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for large-scale investments capable of driving sustainable economic growth and long-term development.
