The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has continued to deepen as Sadiq Sa’adu Fakai insists that the party must uphold the primaries that produced him as its candidate for the Sakaba, Danko/Wasagu, Zuru and Fakai Federal Constituency.
The dispute comes amid growing political activity within the ADC as opposition parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fakai Raises Alarm Over Alleged Replacement
According to the federal constituency candidate, attempts were allegedly made to replace him through documents containing a forged signature and a purportedly fake affidavit.
Fakai said he had raised concerns about the alleged documents before the purported replacement and formally notified both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the ADC through his legal counsel.
He maintained that the relevant authorities were therefore aware of the dispute and urged them not to recognise any action that could undermine the outcome of the party’s primaries.
“The silence of INEC and ADC means they have approved illegality, which we will not allow to stand. As loyal party members, we will sustain pressure on both of them and pursue it legally to its logical conclusion,” he said.
ADC Leadership Urged to Resolve Crisis
Fakai expressed disappointment with the ADC leadership in Kebbi State, accusing the party structure of failing to resolve the dispute before it escalated.
He argued that the continued disagreement could create unnecessary divisions within the opposition party at a time when the ADC is seeking to strengthen its political presence across Nigeria.
The development adds to the growing internal disputes being reported within political parties as preparations for future elections intensify.
Candidate Warns Against Forceful Replacement
The ADC candidate warned that any attempt to forcefully replace him could undermine the party’s electoral prospects in the constituency and weaken the opposition party’s growing momentum.
He said the dispute was already before a court of competent jurisdiction and maintained that any action taken to alter the party’s candidate while the matter remains unresolved could amount to contempt of court.
Fakai also called on his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while the legal process continues.
“No replacement will stand in the case of my constituency in Kebbi State,” he said.
Dispute Puts ADC Candidate Selection Under Scrutiny
The controversy highlights the importance of transparent and credible internal party processes as political parties prepare for upcoming electoral contests.
For the ADC, resolving the Kebbi dispute could be crucial to maintaining unity among its members and avoiding further legal and political complications.
The Bureau Journal will continue to monitor the Kebbi ADC crisis and any response from INEC or the party leadership concerning the disputed candidacy.
