Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State have criticised recent comments made by Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South Senatorial District, accusing him of making what they described as misleading statements about the party and its internal processes.
In a statement, the stakeholders said Senator Maidoki’s recent public comments reflected dissatisfaction with his political standing rather than the realities within the APC. The Bureau Journal reports that the stakeholders also rejected claims suggesting he was denied an opportunity to participate in the party’s primary process.
Stakeholders Defend APC Primary Process
According to the group, Senator Maidoki was not a member of the APC when the party conducted its primaries and therefore could not have been excluded from a process in which he was not eligible to participate.
The stakeholders maintained that the party followed its established procedures and urged politicians to avoid making claims capable of misleading the public.
Criticism Over Security Comments
The stakeholders also took issue with Senator Maidoki’s comments on the security situation in Kebbi South, particularly the Zuru Emirate.
They alleged that despite publicly expressing concern over insecurity in the area, the senator had not actively participated in consultative meetings organised by the state government and traditional institutions to address security challenges.
According to the statement, effective leadership during periods of insecurity requires sustained engagement with affected communities and collaboration with relevant authorities.
Remarks About Traditional Institution Rejected
The APC stakeholders further criticised remarks allegedly made by the senator concerning the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III.
They argued that traditional rulers should remain above partisan political disputes and urged political actors to avoid dragging respected traditional institutions into political disagreements.
The group described the Emir as a respected traditional leader who continues to enjoy the support of the people within the Zuru Emirate.
Support for Governor Nasir Idris
The stakeholders also reaffirmed their support for Governor Nasir Idris, stating that his administration continues to enjoy widespread backing across Kebbi State.
They attributed the governor’s popularity to what they described as the achievements of his administration and expressed confidence in the APC’s political prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Call for Responsible Political Engagement
Concluding the statement, the stakeholders urged Senator Maidoki to focus on constructive political engagement and public service rather than making statements they believe could create unnecessary political tension.
As Nigeria News Today continues to monitor political developments in Kebbi State, The Bureau Journal notes that Senator Garba Musa Maidoki had not publicly responded to the stakeholders’ latest remarks at the time this report was filed.
The Bureau Journal will provide updates should the senator or his representatives issue an official response.
