Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has donated N50 million to persons living with disabilities in the state as part of efforts to support their economic empowerment and promote their inclusion in society.
Governor Idris announced the donation while addressing thousands of persons with disabilities who paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of persons with disabilities and creating opportunities for them to participate meaningfully in the development of Kebbi State.
Governor Idris Says Disability Should Not Limit Opportunity
Governor Idris said living with a disability should not prevent anyone from leading a productive and fulfilling life.
He assured the group that his administration would continue to promote inclusiveness and provide equal opportunities for persons with disabilities across the state.
According to the Governor, the Kebbi State Government established the Kebbi State Commission for Persons With Disabilities to help harness the abilities and potentials of persons living with disabilities and integrate them into the state’s development programmes.
“I am the happiest man to receive such a large number of persons with disabilities on a solidarity visit. I urge you to sustain your support and loyalty to the government, especially as we approach the 2027 general elections for our second tenure,” Governor Idris said.
N50m Donation for Economic Empowerment
As part of the government’s commitment to improving the economic wellbeing of persons with disabilities, Governor Idris announced a N50 million donation to the group.
He urged beneficiaries to remain proactive, develop their skills and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and the state.
The intervention is expected to support efforts aimed at improving the economic participation of persons with disabilities and reducing barriers that may limit their access to opportunities.
Commission Commends Kebbi Government
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Kebbi State Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Abdullahi Aliyu Usman, said the visit was organised to appreciate Governor Idris for what he described as his support and concern for persons living with disabilities.
Usman said the administration had given persons with disabilities a greater sense of belonging by involving them in government programmes and decision-making processes.
He expressed appreciation to the Governor for what he described as efforts to ensure that persons with disabilities are recognised as important contributors to the development of Kebbi State.
Commission Chairman Pledges Support for 2027
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Board of the Kebbi State Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Alhaji Anas Malami Gwandu, commended Governor Nasir Idris for his support for persons with disabilities.
Gwandu described the Governor’s intervention as evidence of what he called his commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable groups across the state.
He pledged the support of members of the commission for Governor Idris’s bid for a second term in the 2027 general elections.
The development adds to the growing political activities in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 elections, with Governor Idris and other political actors increasingly engaging different groups and communities across the state.
Kebbi 2027 Politics
The Governor’s engagement with persons with disabilities comes as political mobilisation intensifies across Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
Recent political developments across the state have included growing alignments and support for the Governor’s administration, while different political groups continue to position themselves ahead of the next general elections.
The Bureau Journal is continuing to track Nigeria’s 2027 political developments, including developments involving Kebbi State and the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The latest intervention also comes amid wider discussions about workers’ welfare, social protection and the rising cost of living across Nigeria. Labour leaders have continued to call for improved incomes as economic pressures affect households across the country.
Focus on Inclusion and Economic Participation
Beyond the political dimension of the solidarity visit, the N50 million intervention places attention on the need for persons with disabilities to have access to economic opportunities, skills development and government support.
For beneficiaries, the effectiveness of the intervention will depend largely on how the funds are distributed and the programmes through which they are used to create sustainable opportunities.
The Kebbi State Government has said its broader objective is to ensure that persons with disabilities are not excluded from the state’s economic and social development.
As the 2027 election approaches, the Governor’s engagement with different groups is also likely to remain an important feature of political activities in Kebbi State.
