The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has issued a formal Notice of Election for the local government council polls scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026.
The elections will cover all 21 local government areas, 239 electoral wards and 3,508 polling units across the state.
The notice, dated October 3, 2026, was signed by the commission’s chairman, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri. It was issued under the powers conferred on KOSIEC by the Constitution, the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission Law and other applicable electoral laws.
KOSIEC calls for cooperation ahead of council elections
In a statement issued by its Information Officer, Modupe Adegboro, the commission said it had made the necessary arrangements for the conduct of the elections.
It called on political parties, candidates, accredited observers, security agencies, media organisations and civil society groups to cooperate with the commission throughout the electoral process.
Traditional and religious institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders were also urged to support efforts to maintain peace before, during and after voting.
KOSIEC emphasised that cooperation across communities and institutions would be important to achieving peaceful, orderly and credible elections in all 21 councils.
Voters urged to participate responsibly
The commission appealed to eligible voters and other participants to conduct themselves responsibly and support the successful conduct of the polls.
It urged citizens across the state to work together to preserve peace throughout the exercise.
The notice comes amid wider attention to local government administration in Kogi, including a court case seeking four-year terms for elected council chairmen and councillors.
