The Wazobia Conflict Resolution and Peace Advocacy Initiative (WACORPAI), in partnership with WIAPECOR, has announced the commencement of its selection process for the 12 Best Performing Governors, 12 Best Performing Senators and 12 Best Performing Speakers of the Year 2026.
According to the organisation, the annual recognition is aimed at celebrating outstanding leadership, promoting accountability and highlighting public officials whose contributions are making an impact in governance and national development.
WACORPAI Announces 2026 Leadership Recognition
The organisation said the initiative will recognise governors, senators and speakers who demonstrate excellence in leadership, service delivery and responsible governance across the country ahead of preparation to vote in Nigeria.
WACORPAI said the recognition is also designed to encourage peace, unity and responsible citizenship by highlighting leaders whose policies and activities contribute positively to their communities and the country.
The initiative will cover all 36 states as well as members of the National Assembly, according to the announcement.
Selection Criteria for Best Performing Leaders
WACORPAI said the selection process will consider several areas of leadership and public service performance.
For governors, the assessment will include performance in infrastructure, education, healthcare and youth empowerment, as well as commitment to peacebuilding and security.
For lawmakers, the organisation said consideration will be given to legislative contributions, effective oversight, constituency engagement and people-centred policies.
The selection will also consider transparency, accountability, inter-religious dialogue and broader contributions to peace and development.
Public Nominations and Stakeholder Review
According to WACORPAI, the selection process will involve public nominations, stakeholder review and a final assessment by an independent panel.
The panel is expected to comprise experts, civil society leaders and faith actors who will participate in the final selection process.
Feedback from citizens, civil society organisations and independent assessments will also form part of the criteria for determining the eventual awardees.
Winners to Be Unveiled at National Leadership and Peace Awards
The final list of the 12 best performing governors, senators and speakers is expected to be unveiled during the WACORPAI National Leadership & Peace Awards 2026.
The organisation called on members of the public, the media and civil society to support the initiative and participate in the process of identifying public officials who have demonstrated measurable commitment to good governance and national unity and 2027 General Elections in Nigeria.
WACORPAI Highlights Peace and Nation-Building Mission
WACORPAI described itself as a non-political and non-tribal conflict resolution and peace advocacy organisation committed to equality, justice, peace and unity.
The organisation said it provides practical training programmes designed to equip individuals with skills in conflict resolution and peace advocacy while promoting national and global peace.
It also said its activities extend beyond humanitarian interventions to include contributions to nation-building, cultural values and the promotion of social cohesion.
WACORPAI Membership and Training Opportunities
According to the organisation, members have access to professional training opportunities aimed at developing Certified Peace Advocates and Ambassadors.
WACORPAI said members can also benefit from affiliations with international institutions, participation in global peace platforms, enhanced conflict-handling skills and access to academic research through its partners.
