About 3,000 residents of Kebbi State are expected to benefit from an eight-day free medical outreach involving 25 doctors from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries.
The healthcare intervention is being organised by the Kebbi State Government in collaboration with the Nasara Foundation and the World Association of Muslim Youths (WAMY), Riyadh.
Engineer Imrana Ibn-Usman, Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Religious Affairs, disclosed the development in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
According to him, the medical outreach will take place at the Kalgo Medical Centre (KMC) from Saturday, September 12, to Saturday, September 19, 2026.
1,500 Patients Expected to Undergo Surgery
Ibn-Usman said the outreach would provide free treatment for various medical conditions, including general surgical procedures.
About 1,500 patients are expected to undergo surgery during the exercise, while another 1,500 residents are expected to receive other forms of medical treatment.
The intervention is particularly targeted at vulnerable and less-privileged residents who may not otherwise be able to afford specialised medical care.
The scale of the exercise means that thousands of residents could receive access to medical services without having to bear the cost of treatment.
Kebbi Government Mobilises Residents Across 21 LGAs
The Special Adviser called on chairmen of all 21 local government areas in Kebbi State to identify and mobilise residents who require medical attention.
He urged the local government authorities to ensure that eligible residents are informed about the outreach and given the opportunity to access the services.
The appeal is particularly important for residents in rural communities who may face financial or geographical barriers when seeking specialised healthcare.
The Kebbi Government has continued to highlight healthcare delivery as part of its wider development agenda. The Bureau Journal previously reported on the state’s efforts to strengthen government operations and public-service delivery.
Doctors From Riyadh and Other Arab Countries Join Outreach
Ibn-Usman commended the visiting medical professionals from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries for offering their expertise and services to residents of Kebbi.
He also expressed appreciation to the Nasara Foundation and WAMY for collaborating with the state government to bring the intervention to Kebbi.
The involvement of medical professionals from outside Nigeria is expected to expand the range of specialist services available to beneficiaries during the eight-day exercise.
Vulnerable Residents Urged to Take Advantage
The government adviser encouraged residents who require medical attention to make use of the opportunity rather than allow financial constraints to prevent them from seeking care.
He also urged beneficiaries to appreciate the state government and the visiting medical team for providing the services at no cost.
The outreach comes amid continuing efforts to improve access to healthcare in Kebbi. The Bureau Journal has previously reported on health initiatives focused on maternal and child healthcare in the state, as well as UNICEF-backed interventions targeting vulnerable communities.
The state has also faced the broader challenge of expanding access to specialist medical services, particularly for residents who cannot afford treatment in private facilities or travel outside the state.
Eight-Day Medical Exercise Begins September 12
The free medical outreach is scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 12, and continue until Saturday, September 19, at the Kalgo Medical Centre.
With 3,000 residents expected to benefit, the exercise is one of the latest healthcare interventions aimed at extending medical services to people who might otherwise struggle to access specialised treatment.
For the state government, the immediate priority is to ensure that residents across Kebbi’s 21 local government areas are adequately mobilised and that those requiring treatment can access the visiting medical team during the limited eight-day window.
The Bureau Journal will continue to follow developments around healthcare access and public health interventions in Kebbi State.
