The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulazeez Yari, has visited Kebbi State to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yari met Governor Nasir Idris, traditional rulers and party leaders in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, expressing confidence that the APC’s political structures would deliver victory in the state.
Speaking at the Emir of Gwandu’s palace, he commended Idris and other party leaders for bringing stakeholders together and sustaining mobilisation for the President’s re-election.
“We are leading the campaign for the president’s re-election and other candidates of our party,” Yari said.
Campaign Council Seeks Broad Cooperation
Yari said the council would work with individuals and groups committed to Tinubu’s re-election, regardless of their positions, to strengthen the party’s campaign.
He described the reception in Kebbi as encouraging and urged supporters to maintain their collective commitment ahead of the polls.
The visit adds to wider grassroots mobilisation for Tinubu across Northern Nigeria, as political groups organise support for the presidential contest.
In Kebbi, endorsements have also come from organised labour groups, including the Nigeria Union of Teachers’ backing for Governor Idris.
Yari Defends Government’s Security Efforts
Addressing insecurity, Yari acknowledged the challenges confronting the country but maintained that the Tinubu administration was working to tackle them.
He recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari, despite his military background, had also confronted persistent security threats.
“If a retired general did his best but could not completely tackle insecurity, what do you expect of President Tinubu, who is not a general?
“Nevertheless, the president has done his utmost best to address the security challenges confronting the country,” he said.
Yari also urged Nigerians to reflect on their relationship with God, saying collective responsibility should accompany government action.
Security concerns remain prominent in Kebbi, where Idris recently outlined plans for additional deployments and military facilities during a visit to Zuru Emirate.
Economic Relief Measures Feature in Discussions
On the economy, Yari argued that hardship was not peculiar to Nigeria. He said inflation and fertiliser prices had declined and cited cash transfers to vulnerable households among government measures intended to ease pressure on citizens.
He urged Nigerians to recognise the administration’s efforts while supporting its development agenda.
The economic debate in Kebbi has also included competing assessments of workers’ welfare and political pledges ahead of the elections.
Idris Says Federal Projects Strengthen Support for Tinubu
Responding, Governor Idris welcomed the campaign delegation and thanked the traditional rulers and APC leaders who gathered to receive it.
He said the emirs had assembled at the palace to welcome the visitors and demonstrate solidarity.
Idris maintained that Kebbi had benefited from federal projects under Tinubu, arguing that those interventions had strengthened support for the President.
“We have no reason not to support the president. We have prominent leaders such as Sen. Atiku Bagudu, Sen. Adamu Aliero and Ambassador Saidu Dakingari.
“You have seen the people of Kebbi and their overwhelming support. We are for the APC, and we are for President Tinubu,” he said.
The governor expressed confidence in the party’s prospects as Kebbi prepares for a contest already drawing attention to the political competition involving Idris and Abubakar Malami.
