Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has assured residents of Fana community that his administration will consider the rehabilitation of the flood-damaged road linking Kyangakwai and Fana to Dakingari town.
The Bureau Journal reports that the road was severely affected by flooding, causing major disruptions to transportation, trade, and economic activities in the affected communities.
Governor Inspects Flood-Damaged Road
Governor Idris gave the assurance on Thursday during an inspection tour of the affected road.
He observed that the damage has had a significant impact on the local economy, particularly on farmers and traders who depend on the route to transport agricultural produce and conduct business activities.
The governor sympathised with residents of the affected communities and reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring critical infrastructure across the state.
Economic Impact on Communities
According to Governor Idris, the rehabilitation of the road will help restore economic activities and improve connectivity between communities in the area.
He noted that the road serves as an important link for rural communities and remains vital to commerce and agricultural development.
Lawmaker Explains Cause of Road Damage
The member representing Dandi Local Government Area in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Dr. Suleiman Fana, explained that the road was cut off following heavy rainfall recorded during the last rainy season.
He described the road as a major commercial route whose collapse has negatively affected businesses, including commercial motorcycle transportation and other trading activities.
Government Considers Permanent Solution
Also speaking during the inspection, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Farouk Umar Muslim, stated that a lasting solution would require the construction of two additional culverts along the route.
According to him, the proposed intervention will provide adequate water channels during periods of heavy rainfall and help prevent future damage to the road infrastructure.
The commissioner added that the measure would enhance the durability of the road and improve access for residents, farmers, and traders across the affected communities.
