The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial hopeful for Kogi East in the 2027 general election, Alhaji Muhammed Abdullahi, popularly known as “Elephant,” has called on eligible voters across the district to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before the July 10, 2026 deadline.
Abdullahi made the appeal through a voter awareness campaign tagged “Have You Secured Your PVC?”, describing the voter card as a critical instrument for citizens to participate in the democratic process and influence the future of their communities.
PVC Remains Citizens’ Strongest Democratic Tool
According to him, every eligible voter has a responsibility to ensure they are properly registered and prepared to participate in future elections.
“Your vote is your right and your voice. Without a PVC, that voice cannot be heard at the ballot box. I urge all eligible residents of Kogi East, especially first-time voters, to register and secure their PVCs before the deadline,” he said.
Registration Exercise Covers Transfers and Replacements
The PDP chieftain explained that the ongoing exercise is not limited to first-time registrants, noting that it also accommodates voters seeking transfer of registration and replacement of lost or damaged voter cards.
“This exercise is not only for those registering for the first time. Those who have relocated and need to transfer their registration, as well as those whose voter cards are lost or damaged, should take advantage of this opportunity,” Abdullahi stated.
He stressed that active participation in the electoral process remains a civic responsibility capable of strengthening democracy and promoting accountable leadership.
Call for Greater Voter Mobilisation Across Kogi East
Abdullahi further encouraged youths, women, traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders across the nine local government areas of Kogi East to intensify voter awareness and mobilisation efforts before the registration window closes.
“Democracy thrives when citizens participate. Securing your PVC is the first step toward choosing leaders who will represent your interests and deliver meaningful development to our people,” he added.
He emphasized that broad participation in the registration exercise would help ensure that the voices of Kogi East residents are adequately represented in future elections.
“The future of Kogi East belongs to all of us. Let us not sit on the sidelines. Every eligible citizen should ensure they are registered and ready to vote when the time comes. Together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous Kogi East,” he said.
The Bureau Journal reports that the Continuous Voter Registration exercise is expected to end on July 10, 2026, after which only registered voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards will be eligible to participate in future elections.
