Dialysis services have resumed at the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital (MAWTH), Kano, following the successful repair of a technical fault affecting the facility’s Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment system.
The Kano State Hospitals Management Board said the dialysis unit is now fully functional and ready to attend to patients requiring renal care.
Kano Approves Four New Dialysis Machines
In a related development, Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the procurement of four new dialysis machines for the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre.
The intervention is expected to expand dialysis capacity, improve access to specialised kidney care and reduce pressure on existing facilities across the state.
The development comes amid wider political and administrative activities in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Bureau Journal recently reported on political developments in the state in NDC’s nomination of Dr Muhammad Hamisu for the Gwale Federal Constituency race in Kano.
Abubakar Imam Urology Centre Set for Service Resumption
The Hospitals Management Board said the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre is expected to resume full services in the coming weeks after the delivery and installation of the new equipment.
The addition of four dialysis machines is expected to increase the number of patients that can receive renal care and provide an alternative for patients who may otherwise face pressure on available dialysis facilities.
Board Commends Kano Government
The Board’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, commended Governor Yusuf for his continued investment in healthcare infrastructure and specialised medical services.
He said the intervention would support efforts to improve access to essential healthcare services and strengthen the capacity of specialised medical facilities in the state.
The development also adds to ongoing public discussion about healthcare delivery and access to specialised medical services in Nigeria. The Bureau Journal has previously examined healthcare-related issues, including the circumstances surrounding the death of physiotherapist Mary Habila in its report, Who Was Mary Habila? Everything to Know About the 26-Year-Old Physiotherapist Found Dead at David Umahi’s Residence.
Dialysis Patients Urged to Utilise Restored Facility
The Board urged dialysis patients to utilise the restored facility at MAWTH following the resolution of the technical fault.
It said further updates on the reopening of the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre would be communicated to the public after the new dialysis machines have been delivered and installed.
What the Development Means for Patients
The restoration of dialysis services at MAWTH is expected to provide immediate relief for patients who depend on regular dialysis treatment for kidney-related conditions.
Meanwhile, the planned installation of four additional machines at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre could further expand Kano State’s capacity to provide specialised renal care.
For patients and their families, the availability of functioning dialysis equipment is particularly important because dialysis often requires repeated treatment and reliable access to specialised medical facilities.
Final Word
The restoration of dialysis services at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital and the approval of four new dialysis machines for the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre represent two healthcare interventions aimed at improving access to renal care in Kano State.
While MAWTH has already resumed dialysis services following the repair of its RO water treatment system, attention will now turn to the delivery and installation of the new machines at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre.
The Hospitals Management Board said further information on the centre’s full reopening would be made available to the public as the process progresses.
