The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has nominated cybersecurity expert and youth mobiliser, Dr Muhammad Hamisu, as its candidate for the Gwale Federal Constituency seat in Kano State ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The Bureau Journal reports that Dr Hamisu emerged as the party’s flagbearer through a consensus arrangement following the conclusion of its nomination process.
Consensus Emergence and Party Nomination
His emergence positions him to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the NDC platform, following internal consultations within the party structure.
Party supporters described the process as smooth, noting that it produced a candidate with strong grassroots appeal and professional credibility.
Profile: Cybersecurity Expert and Youth Mobiliser
Dr Hamisu is a cybersecurity professional, grassroots political organiser, and prominent member of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, where he serves as Global Coordinator of Kwankwasiyya Diaspora.
In that role, he oversees mobilisation and engagement activities across several countries, helping to strengthen the movement’s international presence.
Political analysts describe him as one of the leading youth mobilisers within the movement, with a track record of student leadership and community engagement dating back to his university years.
Education and Professional Background
Hamisu is a native of Gwale Local Government Area in Kano State. He attended BUK Staff School for his primary education and later Dawakin Kudu Science College for his secondary education.
He obtained a degree in Computer Engineering from Bayero University Kano (BUK), worked briefly with Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), and later proceeded to the United Kingdom on scholarship.
While in the UK, he earned a Master’s degree in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics and later completed a PhD in Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence.
Political Journey and Kwankwasiyya Involvement
During his stay in the United Kingdom, Dr Hamisu played a leading role in expanding the Kwankwasiyya Movement’s diaspora structures.
He later became Global Coordinator of Kwankwasiyya Diaspora, strengthening coordination across international chapters.
In the 2023 general elections, he initially sought to contest the Gwale Federal Constituency seat but withdrew his ambition in support of party unity following appeals from movement leadership.
Commitment to Representation
After securing the party’s ticket, Dr Hamisu pledged to provide effective and accountable representation to the people of Gwale Federal Constituency.
He said his legislative focus would include education, youth empowerment, economic growth, digital innovation, and improved welfare for constituents.
“I am committed to serving the people of Gwale with dedication, integrity, and accountability. Our constituency deserves representation that listens, engages, and delivers tangible results,” he said.
At 38, he is married with children and is widely regarded as part of a new generation of political leaders combining professional expertise with grassroots mobilisation.
