The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State has revoked the suspension of its state chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Kana-Zuru, restoring him to office with immediate effect more than three months after his suspension.
The reinstatement also ends the acting arrangement under which the Deputy State Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mudi Augie, had been performing the chairman’s duties.
The State Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Isah Abubakar Assalafi, announced the decision at a press conference at the APC State Secretariat in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
State Working Committee Revokes June Suspension
Assalafi said the State Working Committee (SWC) reviewed the circumstances and developments surrounding Kana-Zuru’s suspension before resolving to restore him to office.
He recalled that the committee had adopted Resolution No. KSWC/010/2026 at its meeting on June 20, suspending Kana-Zuru from his position.
The Bureau Journal previously reported on the suspension of the Kebbi APC state chairman and the party’s Zuru Local Government chairman.
Reading the new resolution adopted on October 1, Assalafi said:
“That the suspension of Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Kana from the office of State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kebbi State, pursuant to Resolution No. KSWC/010/2026 dated 20th June 2026, is hereby revoked with immediate effect.”
According to the party, Kana-Zuru is to resume the full functions, powers, duties and responsibilities of state chairman.
Assalafi did not specify the developments that prompted the reversal. The announcement also did not state whether the allegations underlying the earlier suspension had been withdrawn or resolved.
Augie Returns to Deputy Chairman’s Office
The resolution terminates Augie’s appointment as acting state chairman and directs him to return to his substantive position.
“Accordingly, Alhaji Adamu Mudi Augie shall cease to act as Acting State Chairman and shall resume his substantive office as Deputy State Chairman,” Assalafi said.
He added that official records, documents, correspondence and other materials relating to the chairman’s office must be handed over to Kana-Zuru immediately.
APC National Headquarters to Receive Resolution
The committee directed the State Secretary to formally communicate the decision to the appropriate party organs, including the APC National Headquarters, for information, record and necessary action.
Assalafi said the reversal reflected the authority of the party’s constituted organs to review decisions in accordance with its constitution and established procedures.
He urged party officials, members and stakeholders to recognise the resolution as Kana-Zuru resumes his responsibilities.
The announcement concerns Kana-Zuru’s reinstatement and the end of the acting chairmanship arrangement. It does not announce a decision on the separately suspended Zuru Local Government party chairman.
The resolution took effect upon its adoption at the State Working Committee meeting on October 1.
