The Kebbi State Government has announced July 27, 2026, as the date for the third edition of its Mass Wedding Programme, an initiative championed by the Wife of the Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, to support vulnerable women across the state.
The Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the level of preparedness for the event.
He said all necessary arrangements had been completed to ensure a successful and hitch-free ceremony.
300 Brides Selected Across Kebbi’s 21 LGAs
According to Argungu, the programme is specifically designed to support three categories of women: orphans, widows and divorcees.
He revealed that a total of 300 brides were carefully selected from the 21 local government areas of the state through ward, local government and state committees established to oversee the exercise.
He explained that the selection process strictly complied with Islamic principles, with the consent of parents or guardians (Wali), while each prospective bride freely chose her spouse.
Argungu added that all necessary Shari’ah requirements, including the involvement of guardians and representatives (Wakil), were observed to ensure the marriages fully comply with Islamic teachings.
Government to Pay ₦250,000 Dowry for Each Bride
The committee chairman disclosed that the Kebbi State Government will pay a dowry of ₦250,000 for each bride on behalf of the grooms, in line with Islamic tradition.
He said the formal presentation of the dowries would be one of the major highlights of the mass wedding ceremony scheduled for July 27.
Brides to Receive Household Support Packages
Beyond the payment of dowries, each bride will receive a comprehensive package of household items to help the newly married couples begin their family life with greater comfort.
The support package includes beds, mattresses, furniture, cooking utensils and other essential household equipment.
Initiative Promotes Family Values
Argungu commended Governor Nasir Idris and the Wife of the Governor for sustaining the mass wedding initiative, describing it as a humanitarian intervention that promotes family values, supports vulnerable women and strengthens social cohesion across Kebbi State.
He noted that the programme has continued to provide hope and dignity to beneficiaries while encouraging stable family life across communities.
