NCWS Praises First Lady, Nasara Foundation

The Kebbi State chapter of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) has commended the state’s First Lady, Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, and the Nasara Foundation for sponsoring free surgeries and medical care for women, men and children across the state.

The state president of NCWS, Hajia Hadiza Muhammad Kola, gave the commendation on Tuesday in a statement signed by her and made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.

Kola described the intervention as timely and humane, particularly amid the high cost of surgical procedures, which can place significant financial pressure on families seeking medical treatment.

Rural and Semi-Urban Residents Among Beneficiaries

She said women from rural and semi-urban communities were among the major beneficiaries of the free surgeries and medications, adding that the initiative was helping people who might otherwise struggle to afford such care.

“Our concern are women because they form a larger part of the society with so many health issues requiring surgeries, hence our reason to hand down the commendation to encourage her to do more for the society,” she said.

Doctors Carry Out Surgeries at No Cost

According to Kola, doctors involved in the programme are carrying out different types of surgeries on both women and men at no cost to beneficiaries.

She said the decision to bring foreign doctors to provide free surgical services was timely, given the financial challenges many people face when seeking medical treatment.

Beneficiaries Urged to Follow Medical Advice

Kola urged beneficiaries to follow doctors’ post-surgery instructions and medical advice to support recovery and ensure proper healing.

The intervention comes amid broader health-related initiatives in Kebbi, including efforts to strengthen maternal and child healthcare. The Bureau Journal has previously reported on Kebbi’s maternal and child health strategy and UNICEF support for vulnerable children in the state.

Other coverage has examined UNICEF’s development planning across Kebbi and neighbouring states, the presidential emergency food intervention in Kebbi and the state government’s efforts to strengthen treasury operations.
