The Kogi State APC Former Commissioners Forum has pledged to comprehensively renovate Government Science Secondary School, Lokoja, as it launched the distribution of back-to-school materials to public primary and secondary schools across the state.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo announced the renovation commitment on Tuesday during the distribution ceremony at the school in Zone 8, Lokoja.
He commended the former commissioners for supporting education and described their continued cooperation as evidence of the unity nurtured under former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello.
Learning Materials to Support Public Schools
Ododo said the forum’s education initiative would complement government interventions and ease the financial burden on parents and guardians.
He described the distribution as an opportunity for former public officials to give back to the communities they had served.
The governor urged other groups and individuals to support children’s education, saying the development of Kogi required shared investment in human capital and citizens’ welfare.
The initiative adds to education support programmes, including bursary payments for Kogi students and foundation-led education and youth development interventions.
Forum Commits to Renovating Host School
Ododo disclosed that the former commissioners had agreed to take responsibility for renovating Government Science Secondary School, the venue of the ceremony.
The school’s principal, Mr Ojapa Stephen Ajayi, highlighted the institution’s historical importance.
An alumnus, Prince Sani Ogu Salisu, appealed for the restoration of its former boarding-school status, recalling its role in bringing together students from Kogi East, Central and West.
The renovation commitment did not include an announced cost or completion timetable. No decision restoring boarding facilities was stated in the account.
School infrastructure has also attracted community attention elsewhere, including plans for CUSTECH’s teaching hospital and medical students’ accommodation.
Ododo Credits Bello With Political Cohesion
The governor praised the forum for maintaining loyalty, mutual trust and collective responsibility beyond the administration in which its members served.
He recalled an understanding among former officials that whoever emerged as governor would accommodate others, while the remaining members would support the person chosen through the political process.
Ododo said that commitment continued to shape his approach to governance and the involvement of former appointees in the administration’s activities.
He described the forum as a dependable source of support for his government, the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The remarks come amid wider mobilisation for Tinubu’s re-election and political preparations reflected in the APC’s senatorial candidate selections.
Governor Promises Continued Inclusion
Ododo thanked the former commissioners and other former officials for their confidence in his leadership and pledged to sustain an inclusive administration.
He said their participation in the school programme showed how political cooperation could support practical interventions for pupils, students and families.
