Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has pledged to sustain security operations in Kabba-Bunu until residents can return to their farms, businesses and daily activities without fear.
Ododo gave the assurance while receiving traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, women and youths from Bunu Kingdom during a solidarity visit to Government House, Lokoja.
He said protecting lives and property remained a priority despite the financial and operational demands, adding that pressure would not deter his administration from confronting criminal elements.
Governor Seeks Continued Cooperation
Ododo urged community stakeholders to remain united and support security efforts across the area.
He commended the state security team, particularly State Security Adviser Commodore Jerry Omodara, for its work against insecurity.
The governor said the objective was to create conditions in which residents could pursue their livelihoods safely.
Security operations elsewhere in Kogi have included the interception of an arms cache and the rescue of kidnapped people following a gun battle in Itobe.
Ododo Recalls Support During 2023 Consultations
The governor recalled his visit to the kingdom during consultations before the 2023 governorship election, describing the reception as a lasting expression of affection and support.
He said the traditional rulers’ collective request for the grading of ungraded rulers strengthened his determination to respond to the community’s legitimate aspirations.
Ododo also pointed to appointments of people from the area into his administration, describing inclusion and shared responsibility as important to governance.
Bunu Development Association Reaffirms Partnership
Chairman of the Bunu Development Association, Pastor Kolawole Johnson, presented the community’s position on security, unity, inclusive governance and development.
He reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful coexistence and cooperation with the state government.
Johnson thanked Ododo for appointing people from the area to positions of responsibility, particularly Omodara and Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones.
In his remarks, Omodara described the visit as a demonstration of unity among Bunu’s traditional rulers, political leaders, professionals, women and youths.
He highlighted the Bunu Elders Forum and Bunu Women Development Forum as platforms helping to strengthen cooperation and community organisation.
Commissioner Highlights Education Investment
Jones commended the governor’s continued support for Kogi State University, Kabba, and GYB Modern Science Secondary School, Okebukun.
He said the administration was sustaining education investment and building on earlier projects in the sector.
Other education interventions reported in Kogi include bursary support for students and plans for CUSTECH’s teaching hospital and medical students’ accommodation.
The solidarity engagement also touched on wider development priorities, alongside the state’s Executive Council decisions on projects, agricultural support and reforms.
Ododo thanked the delegation for its support and reiterated his commitment to protecting residents and sustaining cooperation with the community.
