Police officers reportedly prevented members of the “Tinubu Must Go” movement from entering a venue along Murtala Muhammad Way in Kano on Sunday, disrupting a planned meeting.
Abba Hikima, a lawyer and one of the movement’s conveners, raised the alarm, alleging that officers stationed at the premises were blocking members from gaining access.
Some members expressed dissatisfaction with the blockade and protested their inability to enter the venue.
Convener Raises Concern Over Police Action
Hikima’s complaint drew attention to the disruption, but the circumstances surrounding the police deployment remained unclear at the time of the report.
The account did not specify whether the gathering eventually took place at another location or whether anyone was arrested.
The incident comes as political groups intensify their activities ahead of the 2027 elections. Kano has featured in earlier mobilisation, including the appearance of campaign posters promoting Rotimi Amaechi.
Police Explanation Awaited
The Kano State Police Command’s explanation for blocking access was not immediately available.
The organisers’ account did not establish what reasons officers gave for their action.
The disruption raises questions about the treatment of political gatherings as supporters and opponents of President Bola Tinubu organise ahead of the elections, including pro-Tinubu grassroots activities in northern Nigeria.
Calls for restraint during political engagement have also featured in appeals against political violence.
