Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has congratulated the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on his 70th birthday.
Governor Idris joined the Muslim Ummah, traditional institutions and Nigerians across the country in celebrating the Sultan, describing him as a respected religious and traditional leader whose life has been defined by service, wisdom, humility and commitment to peace and national unity.
Governor Idris Praises Sultan’s Leadership
In a congratulatory message, Governor Idris described the Sultan’s 70th birthday as more than a celebration of age, saying the milestone represents decades of service to Islam, humanity and Nigeria.
He noted that the Sultan’s distinguished career in the Nigerian Army, followed by his traditional and religious leadership, had positioned him as one of Nigeria’s prominent voices on peace, religious tolerance, national cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
According to the governor, the Sultan has consistently used his position and influence to promote unity and peaceful relations among Nigerians across religious, ethnic and political divides.
“His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, represents much more than the revered throne he occupies. He is a symbol of wisdom, dignity, humility and service,” Governor Idris said.
He added that the Sultan’s leadership had continued to provide guidance to millions of Muslims and other Nigerians during periods of national uncertainty.
Sultan Remains Important Voice for Peace
Governor Idris commended the Sultan for his continued advocacy for peace and national unity, describing his interventions on matters affecting the country as a source of guidance and reassurance.
He said the Sultan’s commitment to peaceful coexistence had strengthened bonds within the Muslim Ummah while also contributing to broader efforts to promote harmony across Nigerian society.
The governor said the Sultan’s influence extends beyond his traditional position, describing him as a statesman, father and servant of humanity whose contributions would continue to inspire future generations.
Idris Highlights Sultan’s Importance to Kebbi
Governor Idris said the Sultan occupies a particularly important place in the hearts of people in Kebbi State, describing him as both a revered royal father and a source of counsel and prayers for the people.
“For us in Kebbi State, His Eminence is not only a revered royal father and the leader of the Muslim Ummah, but also a father whose counsel, prayers and wise guidance remain invaluable to our people and the nation at large,” he said.
The governor’s comments come against the background of continued engagement between the Kebbi State Government and traditional institutions across the state. The Bureau Journal previously reported on how the Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State Government are working together on peace and development.
Kebbi Government Maintains Engagement With Traditional Institutions
Traditional institutions remain an important part of political, social and community engagement in Kebbi State.
Governor Idris has previously visited traditional rulers across the state as part of consultations on governance and preparations for the 2027 political cycle. During one such exercise, he sought royal blessings for himself and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
Such engagements have continued to highlight the role of traditional rulers in promoting peace, community development and social stability.
Governor Prays for Sultan’s Continued Service
Governor Idris, on behalf of his family, the Kebbi State Government and the people of the state, prayed for the continued good health and long life of the Sultan.
He prayed that Almighty Allah would increase the Sultan in wisdom and faith and grant him many more years of purposeful service to Islam, the Sokoto Caliphate and Nigeria.
“On behalf of my family, the Government and the good people of Kebbi State, I warmly congratulate His Eminence on this remarkable and beautiful milestone,” the governor said.
He also wished the Sultan a joyous and spiritually rewarding 70th birthday celebration.
Kebbi Governor Continues Focus on Governance and Development
The birthday message comes as the Kebbi State Government continues to pursue initiatives across security, education, workers’ welfare, infrastructure and public financial management.
In recent months, Governor Idris has also strengthened engagement with security agencies over emerging threats across the state. The Bureau Journal previously reported that the governor convened an emergency security meeting to strengthen Kebbi’s security architecture.
The administration has also introduced measures aimed at improving the management of public resources. A recent four-day capacity-building programme focused on strengthening treasury operations, financial controls and accountability in Kebbi State.
On workers’ welfare, Governor Idris has pledged to support further improvements in salaries and working conditions. The Bureau Journal previously reported that the governor pledged support for a new minimum wage as labour negotiations continued.
Sultan’s 70th Birthday Draws National Attention
The Sultan of Sokoto remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent traditional and Islamic leaders, with his influence extending across religious and traditional institutions in the country.
His 70th birthday provides an opportunity for leaders, religious organisations, traditional institutions and citizens to reflect on his years of service and his advocacy for peace, unity and peaceful coexistence.
Governor Idris said he remained proud to celebrate the Sultan as a leader whose life has been devoted to service and whose counsel continues to be valued by millions of Nigerians.
He prayed that the Sultan would continue to witness many more years in sound health, peace and fulfilment.
