Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has urged the PBAT Door-to-Door Campaign Team to deepen direct engagement with residents ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the movement announced the provision of 25 campaign vehicles and 50 public address speakers for mobilisation across the state.
Ododo gave the charge while receiving members of the team at Government House, Lokoja, where he expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s electoral prospects in Kogi.
He said effective mobilisation required more than distributing campaign materials, urging coordinators to build relationships with residents and explain the administration’s policies and achievements at community level.
Governor Calls for Teamwork and Community Engagement
Ododo asked the campaign coordinators to strengthen teamwork and maintain contact with people across communities, streets and settlements.
He also urged them to communicate the support Kogi had received from the Federal Government, particularly in responding to insecurity.
“This is our time to show appreciation. This is our time to say thank you to Mr President,” the governor said.
Ododo acknowledged High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, alongside Engr Matthew Tola and his wife, whom he commended for their contributions to efforts against criminal activities in the state.
The emphasis on local engagement reflects similar grassroots mobilisation efforts for Tinubu in northern Nigeria.
Movement Plans Lokoja Rally
The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement said its 25 vehicles, 50 public address speakers and other campaign materials would support outreach across Kogi.
It announced plans to hold a rally and launch the materials on Monday, October 12, in Lokoja.
The National Coordinator, Sunday Asuku, said the visit was intended to brief the governor on the movement’s activities and formally notify him of the forthcoming event.
Asuku explained that the group would take its message directly to residents, using facts to discuss policies and achievements attributed to the Tinubu administration.
Economic policy is among the subjects likely to feature in those conversations, following Tinubu’s defence of his reforms in his Independence Day address.
‘Politics Is Local’
The movement’s North-Central Coordinator, Ambassador Motowa Victor Opeyemi, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Tinubu’s re-election, saying the vehicles and equipment would extend its reach.
Kogi State Coordinator, Comrade David Mark Ogwu, said the group’s mobilisation strategy rested on existing structures at polling-unit, ward and local-government levels.
“Politics is local. In Kogi State, we believe in local politics,” Ogwu said.
He explained that these structures provided a foundation for sustained contact with voters across the state.
The outreach comes as attention turns to the electorate, including the distribution of registered voters across Nigeria’s states and the FCT.
Kogi Political Structures Prepare for 2027
The meeting adds to political mobilisation ahead of elections that will also involve contests for legislative seats. In Kogi, those preparations include the debate surrounding the Kogi West senatorial ticket and the APC’s selection of its Kogi East senatorial candidate.
Ododo urged the visiting team to keep its campaign focused on meaningful engagement, coordinated outreach and communication with residents.
