Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has predicted a landslide victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Kogi State in the 2027 presidential election, describing the reception at his homecoming in Okene as evidence of strong support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bello, the APC candidate for Kogi Central Senatorial District, told supporters that he remained confident in their loyalty to the party and its leadership.
“I have never doubted that my people are with me 100 per cent. I have never doubted that my people are supporting APC 100 per cent,” he said.
Bello promises strong support for Tinubu
The former governor expressed confidence that voters would support Tinubu, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration and APC candidates, including himself.
He attributed his confidence to what he described as the party’s commitment to infrastructure development and the delivery of democratic dividends at the federal and state levels.
“I want to assure Mr President that the Kogi State election, and the election of Kogi Central in particular, is as good as done 100 per cent for APC,” Bello said.
His comments add to ongoing mobilisation for the president. The Bureau Journal previously reported on Senator Isah Jibrin Echocho’s mobilisation of APC members for Tinubu’s presidential primary in Kogi East.
Elsewhere, organisers have announced a grassroots campaign taking Tinubu’s 2027 message to communities across Northern Nigeria.
Homecoming turnout strengthens confidence
Bello described the turnout at his homecoming as a spontaneous expression of affection and solidarity, saying it had reinforced his confidence in the APC’s grassroots presence.
“It is organic. It is inborn, it is inherent, it is in our DNA, and I sincerely appreciate them,” he said.
He thanked God, President Tinubu, Governor Ododo, the APC and party members for their support, describing the reception as a demonstration of the bond between him and the people he served as governor.
Bello is seeking to represent Kogi Central in the Senate. The Bureau Journal’s report on APC senatorial candidates lists him alongside Joseph Erico for Kogi East and Sunday Karimi for Kogi West.
Former APC chairman praises reception
Speaking with journalists during the homecoming, former Kogi State APC Chairman Abdullahi Bello described the gathering as a demonstration of the people’s attachment to the former governor.
He said supporters had turned out to welcome a leader they credited with contributions to the state’s development and political mobilisation.
“This is the homecoming of a leader that liberated the whole Ebira, and we all turned out to welcome him. It is not an easy thing,” he said.
Kogi political preparations continue
Political activity in the state also includes support-group organisation. The Bureau Journal previously covered Kogi BAT Vanguard’s response to Olusola Olofin’s reported appointment to Tinubu’s campaign council.
Bello’s Senate nomination has separately attracted a dispute. The publication reported a court challenge brought by fellow APC aspirant Momoh Yusuf Obaro against Bello’s emergence as the party’s Kogi Central candidate.
At the homecoming, Bello reiterated his confidence that the reception reflected support for his senatorial ambition and the APC’s presidential campaign.
