As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Kebbi State House of Assembly candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Muhammadu Tilli, has called on voters to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Nasir Idris and other APC candidates at the polls.
Tilli made the call on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi during an interview with journalists, saying the APC needed the continued support of voters to consolidate what he described as the gains recorded by the federal and Kebbi State governments.
According to him, Kebbi has witnessed significant infrastructure development under Governor Nasir Idris in less than three years, with various sectors receiving attention across the state.
His comments come amid growing political activities in Kebbi, where the administration’s record, fiscal management and development priorities are already becoming subjects of political debate. The Bureau Journal recently reported on the state government’s efforts to strengthen treasury operations, as well as its wider push to improve internally generated revenue.
The assembly hopeful argued that both Governor Idris and President Tinubu require additional time to implement their respective programmes and address the needs of people in urban and rural communities.
“I am in politics to salvage our people and to assist the governor in rural transformations because it is only through politics one can widen his scope of assistance to his people,” Tilli said.
The former permanent secretary and philanthropist said the APC-led governments were working to improve the lives of Nigerians, urging voters to support the party’s candidates in 2027.
He also pointed to what he described as ongoing development efforts in Kebbi, including initiatives in infrastructure and public services. The state government has also highlighted its development record as part of the broader Kebbi development story under Governor Idris.
Tilli said that if elected into the Kebbi State House of Assembly, he would pursue legislative measures aimed at attracting development to Bunza and other communities within his constituency.
He promised that his representation would focus on initiatives capable of producing visible improvements in the lives of constituents, particularly in areas requiring greater government attention.
Drawing from his experience as a former permanent secretary in the Kebbi State Ministry of Youth, Tilli also pledged to consolidate existing government efforts on youth empowerment and respond to what he described as the aspirations of young people across the state.
The emphasis on youth development comes as the Kebbi government continues to highlight education, employment and empowerment programmes among its priorities. The Bureau Journal has previously reported on the administration’s education-sector interventions and other policies affecting young people and families across the state.
Tilli described youths as an important pillar of democracy and urged them to participate actively in the electoral process while avoiding actions capable of undermining peace before, during and after the elections.
“The youths should shun political violence and thuggery,” he said, while encouraging eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and use them to determine their preferred candidates through the ballot.
He specifically urged youths across Kebbi State to support Governor Idris, President Tinubu and other APC candidates, saying peaceful participation remained essential to credible elections.
Tilli’s appeal comes as political parties and aspirants increasingly position themselves ahead of 2027, with issues surrounding governance, development, youth empowerment and political continuity expected to feature prominently in the campaign season.
In Kebbi, the political conversation is also being shaped by disagreements within opposition circles and competing assessments of the state government’s performance. Recent developments have included internal tensions involving ADC stakeholders and continuing political realignments ahead of the elections.
The APC candidate’s call for continuity also follows other public endorsements and political engagements around Governor Idris, including recent efforts by APC stakeholders backing the governor’s return bid.
While Tilli’s comments represent his political position as an APC candidate, the 2027 election will ultimately give voters in Kebbi the opportunity to assess the competing records, policies and promises of candidates across the political parties.
The Bureau Journal will continue to track the political developments and electoral realignments shaping Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
